Erectile dysfunction ‘a disease of the blood vessels’

The number of young men suffering from erectile dysfunction is higher than once thought.  According to new research published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, one fourth of men seeking help for ED are under the age of 40, and half of those reported severe ED.
“There are several things that need to happen for a man to have an erection,” said Dr. Johnnie Cook, a family physician at Intermountain Healthcare in Layton. “The nerves to the penis must be functioning properly, the blood circulation in the penis must be adequate, the veins must be able to trap and keep the blood inside the penis, there must be stimulus from the brain.”  If there is something interfering with any or all of these conditions, Cook said, a full erection will not occur.
