The How to Why to Guide aims to provide practical guidance to enable the successful implementation of a diagnostic cuff test (CT3000) and to help you to realise the benefits this test can bring. NTAC campaign delivers on QIPP – From www.pmlive.com

An NHS campaign to encourage UK specialists to adopt latest medical technology has proven a success, say its organisers, who point to the fact that more than 20,000 doctors were engaged in the six-month programme.
The campaign, run by the NHS Technology Adoption Centre (NTAC) and Britain’s largest online network of doctors, Doctors.net.uk, promoted a series of ‘how to, why to’ guides designed to drive the adoption of innovative technologies to improve patient care.

MHRA Alert – Intravenous extension sets

The MHRA has issued an alert on Intravenous (IV) extension sets with multiple ports as they continue to receive reports of adverse incidents. These incidents have led to serious consequences, e.g. patients receiving an inadvertent bolus of anaesthetic agent due to back-tracking, resulting in respiratory arrest.  See MDA/2010/073 for further details.

Medical Industry Week: UK hospital tests Mediplus’ suprapubic catheter

The Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, UK, has been selected as the first hospital in the county of Kent to trial a new urology system that aims to improve patients’ safety and comfort.

Specifically, the hospital’s Urology team is using the Mediplus suprapubic catheter system that will mean patients no longer need to undergo a general anaesthetic and the associated risks since it can be fitted using just a local anaesthetic during day surgery. The hospital, which serves the people of Dartford, Gravesham, Swanley, Bexley and neighbouring districts across South East London and Kent, has a urology unit with three consultants.
