The BAUN Section of Oncology Spring Conference takes place in Bristol on Thursday 18th May and will focus on survivorship in the context of patients with urological cancers.

To complement the comprehensive list of 60+ clinical papers already published over 8 years from several countries around the world  in support of the CT3000 device for non-invasive bladder analysis in men, this new study compares CT3000 to traditional urodynamics in 5 different sites in the UK; the results suggest the ‘cuff test’ has a very high positive predictive value for diagnosing BOO and bladder contractility.

Many men who experience prostate problems will be required to undergo tests to establish whether they have bladder outlet obstruction.

Traditionally, this has involved an invasive diagnostic test (where a catheter is inserted into the penis). But now, using the CT3000, this test can be performed non-invasively and much more comfortably by using a penile cuff (a bit like a blood pressure cuff but placed around the penis) to analyse bladder pressures and help the Urologist to decide whether surgery is going to be effective.

An NHS campaign to encourage UK specialists to adopt latest medical technology has proven a success, say its organisers, who point to the fact that more than 20,000 doctors were engaged in the six-month programme.
The campaign, run by the NHS Technology Adoption Centre (NTAC) and Britain’s largest online network of doctors, Doctors.net.uk, promoted a series of ‘how to, why to’ guides designed to drive the adoption of innovative technologies to improve patient care.
